AUDIO: Ashmolean Museum in Oxford reopens

Coronavirus forced it to close for almost five months.

At 10am today The Ashmolean opened it's doors once again.

Covid-19 safety measures are in place like one-way routes, takeaway catering, hand-sanitiser stations and the public are being asked to wear face-coverings.

Visitors now need to book before going and numbers are capped too.

Dr Xa Sturgis, Director of the Museum, said: 'It is wonderful to be able to welcome people back - they have been sorely missed.

"Art needs an audience and at a time like this, we are all in need of the things museums offer us - enjoyment, reflection and escape.  I cannot wait to open our big blue doors and see people coming in again.'

Dr Sturgis had a chat with our reporter, Emma Kirwan, earlier too:

The critically acclaimed Young Rembrandt exhibition has also now been extended until November.
