One of United's worst first half performances in quite some time saw them capitulate against a side 13 places below them in the table. A brace from former Oxford star Steve Basham was enough to take the three points. The first goal came from some dire defending allowing Basham to miskick the ball into the bottom right hand corner. The second was a free header from a corner. In the second half United struck back through a fantastic Simon Clist volley while the visitors were reduced to ten men after James walked for a second yellow. Oxford pressure didn't tell after this and Hayes shut the game out
